Group Therapy: Treatment of Choice for Sex Addiction

Group therapy is the treatment of choice for sex addiction. The addict’s isolation around this issue, their chronic feelings of self-doubt paired with a questioning of their inherent self-worth and value, compounded by fears of abandonment make group therapy the recommended setting for the treatment of sex addiction. Here, the addict can break his isolation, find others with similar experiences, and get support and accountability from peers.

In the treatment group you will find:

  • Safety to tell your story
  • Others to join you in a struggle you have not been able to overcome on your own
  • An opportunity to break the dysfunctional “rules” of your family in a setting that allows for grace and forgiveness
  • How to make Judgments and not be Judgmental
  • Concern without Disapproval
  • Accountability rather than Criticism
  • Natural Consequences rather than Punishment

Measure yourself by your best moments, not your worst.

A healthy group is a place where you grow to feel safe, learn new behavior, experience both acceptance and accountability in an environment that approximates dynamics of a healthy family. You practice how to be vulnerable and intimate while learning new relationship building skills. In a sex addiction therapy group, your sexual sobriety is supported by others. You learn that you are not alone. In community, you are joined by others against the disease.
